Mercor.ai Hackathon Project

Overview

I participated in Mercor.ai's UX hackathon, where I took on the challenge of extending the capabilities of their existing chatbot. The objectives included implementing new features like bubble chats, customizable backgrounds, multimodal support, and exploring additional functionalities to enhance the user experience. This case study highlights the design and development process I undertook as an individual. 

Background: Mercor.ai's chatbot required improvements to provide users with a more engaging and versatile communication experience. The hackathon aimed to address these challenges and offer innovative solutions. 

Challenges & Objectives

Design & Development

1. Bubble Chats:

• I introduced bubble chats, providing visual separation for each message in the conversation.

• Bubbles were color-coded for easy identification of user and bot messages

2. Customizable Backgrounds:

• Users could select or upload images to serve as the chat screen's background.

• I designed a user-friendly interface to allow for easy customization, similar to popular social media platforms.

An additional choice of switching to dark mode in the entire chatbot was provided too:

Results

The extended chatbot with bubble chats, customizable backgrounds, multimodal support, and additional functionalities was a significant success. Users now had a more dynamic and engaging chat experience, making interactions with the chatbot more enjoyable and productive. The new features facilitated:

Future Directions

The hackathon also encouraged me to suggest additional improvements and functionalities. Some potential future enhancements could include:

• Integration with AI-driven sentiment analysis for better user understanding.

• Smart replies and suggestions based on chat context.

• Integration with third-party apps to provide services directly through the chat.

• Enhanced chatbot analytics for user insights and optimization.

The Mercor.ai chatbot continues to evolve, with the hackathon serving as a catalyst for innovation and user-centered improvements, ensuring its place as a valuable communication tool in the future.
