Founders of the Panora Conservation Chapter of the Izaak Walton League--Hotel Pattee, Perry, Iowa--2017
L to R : Connor Delaney, Michael Delaney, Robert Rye, Steve Roe, Jack Johnson, Colby White, Craig Fleishman
The Izaak Walton League was founded in 1922 to conserve outdoor America for future generations. The League's 54 founders, who were avid anglers, named the organization after Izaak Walton, the 17th century author of The Compleat Angler, a classic book about the art and spirit of fishing. We are one of the earliest conservation organizations to set an aggressive course to defend wild America by changing public policy. Almost every major, successful conservation program that America has in place today can be traced directly to a League activity or initiative.
The Panora Conservation Chapter of the Izaak Walton League was founded in 2017. It is a "virtual" chapter in the sense that the organization has no chapter house and does not formally meet in person. The members are scattered around Iowa and indeed around the United States. The Panora Chapter is primarily interested in policy that protects Iowa "Soil, Air, Woods, Waters and Wildlife." The chapter has many leaders from other chapters, the state division and other conservation organizations. The goal of the Panora Chapter is to network conservationists so that the goals of the IWLA can be advanced through good public policy at all levels. (November 20, 2020)
