I'm a PhD scholar in the Department of Hydrology at IIT Roorkee, focusing on assessing wildfire-induced soil dynamics by integrating soil spectroscopy, remote sensing, geochemistry, and machine learning. My current research focuses on quantifying how fire alters soil carbon in the chir pine forests of the Indian Himalayas, developing low-cost, field-deployable methods that don't rely on lab-intensive analysis or complex modeling.
I was born and raised in Madhya Pradesh, India, and completed my B. Tech in Agricultural Engineering at JNKVV, Jabalpur. Throughout my undergraduate years, I developed a strong interest in advancing agricultural and environmental science, which led me to pursue an M. Tech in Aquacultural Engineering at IIT Kharagpur. It was during my master's that I discovered remote sensing and machine learning as powerful tools for tackling exactly these kinds of problems, which has shaped the direction of my research ever since.
My master's thesis, completed at the Technical University of Munich, Germany, focused on estimating sea surface salinity and chlorophyll using satellite remote sensing and machine learning techniques. Alongside this project, I completed an internship at the German Aerospace Center (DLR), where I worked on ocean biophysical parameter retrieval.
Outside of research, I enjoy traveling, swimming, playing table tennis, cycling, and jogging, usually with music along for the ride. My time in Germany also sparked a lasting enthusiasm for hiking, through which I find a sense of peace and calm in nature. I try to approach both research and life with curiosity and enthusiasm, guided by the simple philosophy: think less, do more.
