Former Teacher
Former Educational Assistant
Former Librarian
Former Librarian Manager
Current Substitute
I believe I have the experience and dedication needed for this position because I have spent much of my life helping, caring for, and teaching children. I have worked in several roles within education, which has given me a well-rounded understanding of what it takes to support students effectively.
As a teacher, I understand the challenge of making limited resources stretch while managing a classroom of 20 students and ensuring that each child learns the material. As a manager, I learned how to make thoughtful decisions about purchasing books and audio/visual materials that would engage children and support their learning. I have also worked as an aide, where I gave my best best effort to help students develop the skills they needed to move successfully to the next grade level.
In addition, I have worked as a substitute teacher, a role that requires patience, flexibility, and the ability to connect with students even when they may behave differently than they do with their regular teacher. Through all of these experiences, my focus has always been on supporting children and helping them succeed.
I truly believe that children are the one of God's greatest gifts, and I want to play a part in helping them grow, learn, and have the opportunity to succeed in life.
Why Am I Running?
I have been a public educator for over 20 years from teaching first grade, Librarian, Educational Assistance, Library Manager and currently substituting. I have a great deal of understanding of how public education works. My experience in public education will help in making decisions that will effect the schools, the teachers and the principals.
I truly believe that children are one of God's greatest gifts and I want t play a part in helping them grow, learn and have the opportunity to succeed in life.
I see three issues that stand out to me: Teacher shortage, decline in reading and math and school funding. There is a great school shortage. Public school teachers have to go to college, student teach on no salary, and pass a praxis test. Most of the 20 something teachers, will quiet in two to three years. The money won't be good enough and the paper work will be overwhelming.
So why can't 5th graders read? That's a great question! When you are in a class of 25 students, the teacher has to do what she can. She has so much that has to be done in a short length of time. All she can do is teach and try to help the students understand. Maybe if the classroom size was smaller or if there was an aid to help her/him this would give the teacher time to help each students.
Have you ever wondered why some classrooms look so much better than others? That's because the teachers has spent their own money for their classrooms to look better. We have to consider that teachers take care of our little ones all day. They feed them, wipe their noses, tie their shoes, put up with their whining and teach them all day. These are our precious little ones that teachers take care of all day. We should respect our teachers better. It takes a special person to handle 25 children at one time.
