Palmyra has a long history of a variety of successful businesses.
Many of these businesses were family-owned and were passed from generation to generation, adapting as times changed.

Conrad Stuhlman immigrated from Germany in 1853 and began working as a blacksmith and wagon maker. In 1866 he was a partner in the Schwartz & Stuhlman wagon makers firm.
From 1873-1881 he worked for Berghoefer & Pollman as the supervisor of their wood department.
1882-1891
In 1882, Conrad and Thomas P. Smoot bought the Excelsior Wagon Works from Schwartz and Henritei and established Stuhlman & Smoot which specialized in wagon making and blacksmithing.
In 1889, Conrad Stuhlman and his sons, Julius and Fred, established C. Stuhlman & Sons which continued until Conrad's death in 1892.
Julius and Fred Stuhlman became owners of the firm and changed the name to Stuhlman Bros. which became a thriving wagon making and blacksmithing business for many years.
In 1947, Julius's grandson, Ralph Stuhlman opened a garage called Ace Motor Company in the old Stuhlman blacksmith shop.
In 1950 Ralph demolished the old building, built a new garage on the site, and renamed it Stuhlman Motor Company.
Ralph's sons Gary, Larry, and Greg joined the firm in the 1970's and 1980's and continued as owners after Ralph's retirement in 1997. On March 31, 2021 the business closed.
