Septal Ontogeny

Before the LLS Method, the ontogenetic trajectories of ammonite sutures were almost impossible to measure. Our lab is leading the conversation on septal development over the lifetime of ammonoids, and how patterns of development in ammonoids relate to siginificant evolutionary phenomena such as Punctuated Equilibrium.

Life Habits of Juvenile Ammonites

Ammonites like Didymoceras probably did not live the same way all through their lives. We know that even ammonites with simpler shells had diverse life habits through ontogeny!

Isotope Data

The relationship between ammonite sutures and their environment is incompletely understood. We are examining relationships between stable-isotope ratios and various features of septal geometry in ammonoids.
