The last two tenants in my park to paint their homes have chosen a medium to lighter purple, and a Frenches mustard yellow. I love that people are taking the initiative to re-paint but wish the color selection was better. What would you/do you do in these situations? Do you stay out of it as long as it is not neon orange or zebra striped or some other extreme color?

2nd) The law in Maine does not allow me to force a color change on a tenant if it will cause undue financial hardship. However, if the home needs to be painted anyway because its peeling, mismatched siding, or repairs to siding make repainting necessary, then the tenant, according to the rules, is supposed to get management approval. If they fail to do so and then go ahead and paint it without management approval in the paint it neon orange, then yes you can notice them for a violation and require them to fix it or potentially be evicted.

All that said, If they did a good job (workman like quality), and the colors are not extreme, you might not make to big a deal of it. However, the next time they need to paint their home as part of keeping up with maintenance standards, they should ask for approval before painting, if they do not they are violating the rules where they are not getting management approval for exterior changes.

My rules state that as owner of the community I have final approval on all exterior work/colours etc. I allow my residents colour choices within the range of exterior colours found already within our community. White, pale blue, grey etc. Regrettably I have in the past had to force residents to repaint when they proceeded without my approval and had chosen a unacceptable colour.

Nothing outside of the norm for exterior colours.

In my jurisdiction I have full control of all exterior work on and around all homes. Residents must have my written approval before proceeding with any work.

I do not think you can control the color they paint their own home unless you have an HOA with guidelines. It is their personal property. You cannot tell them what color to paint the car they park in the driveway.

Painting the cannon hasn't always gone as planned. Last year the Pride painted cannon got defaced. Also, back in 2016 a Mobile Police officer started pepper spraying McGill students who were painting the cannon.

According to a city representative the decision to move away from permitting the painting of the canon was not related to the rainbow being defaced, or the pepper spray incident. They say it wasn't in response to any particular organization or request.

I agree with above comments regarding using a heat source. It might heat the vinyl enough so that you can scrape it off. We have a metal front door too. The evening sun gets so hot that it peels the paint. Every couple yrs I scrape and repaint. I use a paint made especially for metal doors . It's made by Rustoleum and is an oil based paint.

Jeff listed out a lot of good points. BUT one of the first things you need to do is get training whether it be tint or PPF. One thing I have learned in this business over the last 13+ years is you can have 20 great installs but one bad one will kill your business. Sounds like you haven't really had any formal training and you will need it. If you aren't great at tint don't offer it until you are. Tint is being done everywhere and if you are doing poor tint work then it will kill your PPF business. Much better money to be made in PPF although tint can be a good filler. Just don't offer it unless you are great at doing it. Next you need to ping some mobile installers and find out what tips and told they can recommend for you. Mobile installing is much different than working in a shop. I think you have plenty on your plate with Jeff's post... quality work is a must though so get training. And I hate to be the one to point this out... work on your communication skills. having a lot of typos and misspelling/grammar errors will make you look unprofessional and you will loose some customers that way. Just being honest after reading your post.

Starting with sketches, I tried mocking up a bike-mounted easel with zip-ties and whatever I had lying around. The real design breakthrough came when I found I had a random baking sheet in my kitchen that happened to fit perfectly on top of my Wald 139 basket.
