My name is Paige Burton, I am 19 years old. I was born in Fontana and I have lived in Hesperia California up until recently when we moved out to west Oak Hills. I currently attend Victor Valley College where I am pursuing my associate's degree in Criminal Justice. I am taking this class as part of my general education for my degree. I hope to use this degree to help me along my journey as a police k9 trainer. I will jump further into that in a little. For now, I will just tell you a little about myself. For starters, I enjoy being outside and most of the activities that I like to do are outdoors. I love to play softball, snowboard, swim, hike, play with dogs, cook and bake, and most of all spending time with my family.
My family means everything to me. I come from a large family that is really close with one another. I have amazing, caring, and supportive parents. I am the youngest of three girls, my sisters are McKenzie(24) and Corey(21). I also have the amazing role of being an aunt. I have 4 nieces and a nephew. Three of my nieces are my step nieces but I don't like that term because I see them no differently than my other niece. I am an aunt to, Gracy(13), Maddie(10), Penny(8), Raegan(3), and Logan(4 months). Lastly, I have three amazing puppies, Boomer(3), Tito(2), and Asher(12 weeks). These amazing people and animals that were mentioned here are a huge reason for why I am the young woman I am today!
I am currently a student at Victor Valley College and I am going for my associate's degree in Criminal Justice. I plan to graduate next Spring (2023) with my associate's and then focus my attention on building my career, I will decide if I want to continue my education further down the road once I am steady in my occupation. I have two SMART goals planned to help make this happen, one for this class, and one for this semester. My SMART goal for this class is to focus on ways to control my stress in regards to the "ungraded" approach. My SMART goal for this semester is to pass all of my classes so that I can move onto the next step in my education. Another thing that I would love to get out of this class is a true understanding for the topics being learned and the one that I would like to focus on the most is probably my weakest one, Maps. I want to focus the most on this because I know that it will be my weakest one and the one that I will have the hardest time grasping.
My hope for the future is to become a police k9 trainer. As with most jobs, that kind of thing doesn't happen overnight and takes lots of time and dedication to make happen. I currently hold an apprenticeship for two companies where I am learning and assisting the the training of police k9s. As well as, private contract with my narcotic and firearms certified detection dog.
