My Mission
Throughout my life, I watched many peers suffer from mental health and substance abuse disorders. As I began to dive deeper, I discovered that many of them also suffered from underlying learning cognitive, or behavior disorders, many of which, were products of low socioeconomic communities. Due to this combination, it is common for these individuals to enter into what is known as the School to Prison Pipeline. My mission is to prevent individuals with learning, cognitive, and behavior disorders from entering this pipeline due to the lack of resources in underserved communities.
Military Service
From 2010 to 2013 I served onboard the USS John C. Stennis. Over a three-year period, I deployed twice, where I participated in humanitarian efforts in six countries. As part of my collateral duties onboard, I served as a watchstander in the ship's brig and as a trained suicide interventionist.
After my active duty service, I served in the Navy Reserves as a logistics specialist. During this time I had the opportunity to support supply chain operations to ships operating in the Mediterranean, while also interacting and learning about the culture in the countries that I served in.
My military service inspired my love for learning and culture. It opened my eyes to civil rights issues, domestically and around the world, leading to my passion for teaching and serving in marginalized communities.
