Communicating the Incommunicable

A Digital Humanities Approach to Pahor's "The Pyre on the Port"

The following project was developed by Claudia Morris to provide a different approach to investigating Pahor's work, beyond the valuable philosophical discussions she and her classmates facilitated. By producing data visualizations through Voyant Tools, she offers a new lens for rhetorical analysis of some of Pahor's short stories, taken from his 2008 collection The Pyre in the Port and translated by Nina Bjekovic: The Address on the Axis, The Butterfly on the Coat Rack, Flowers for a Leper, New Fibers, and The Persimmons. This project aims to shed light on Pahor's strategies for communicating tragedy, grief, and marginalization from the perspective of a Slovenian living in fascist Italy in the early twentieth century.
