The usual confusion but framed professionally

I’m Ekin Deniz Dere, a cognitive scientist and science communicator mainly interested in how people and artificial systems make sense of the worlds they create through various forms of interactivity. My background moves through economics, philosophy, and journalism, but keeps circling back to the question: what does it mean to be who we are?

In Pages of Becoming, I write about the thoughts that accompany me in my day-to-day existence. I regard writing as a form of thinking, and this is where I think without ever making a claim to context-independent truth. There is no view from nowhere, as Thomas Nagel puts it, or, as Buddhist philosophy puts it, all viewpoints are partial.

Interdisciplinary training in psychology, AI, philosophy, neuroscience, and research methods.
Thesis: The SOS of Experience: A Dialectic Approach to the Relationship Between Sense of Self and Experience (supervised at University of Ljubljana).
Presented at international conferences in Budapest and Zagreb.

Focus: Game theory, Behavioral economics, decision theory, and econometrics.
Thesis: Public Goods Games and the Effect of Culture on Cooperative Behaviour

Business Journalist | 2021 – 2024

Developed feature stories on business, technology, and sustainability using structured research, data comparison across the DACH region, and clear storytelling.
Managed editorial workflows from idea generation to final approval: topic scouting, planning, interviews, writing, editing, and stakeholder approval.
Supported organization of major Forbes events (Women’s Summit and Under 30 Summit in Vienna, Zurich, Berlin).
Moderated panels, hosted on-stage and on-camera interviews, and contributed to community engagement for the Forbes Under 30 network.

Produced interviews, long-form articles, short features, and press-release-style texts for selected projects.
Helped organize and host live science communication and community engagement events.
