Tibial Plateau fractures- AO 41 A, B and C
Pilon fractures - AO 43 A, B and C

Nearly 1 in 10 people with a complex fracture will get a Fracture Related Infection (FRI)
Patients with a FRI have a poor quality of life
Finding the best way to reduce FRI in complex fractures is the number 1 JLA research priority
Researching local antibiotics is a recomended area for research by NICE
We will audit current practice against NICE guidelines - NICE recommend systemic prophylactic antibiotics for fracture fixation surgery
We will explore how complex fractures are currently being managed across the UK
We will describe the current variation in prophylactic antibiotic treatment strategies used in complex fractures across the UK
We will identify hospitals trating complex fractures that will be willing to take part in further research (using local antibiotic)
NICE currently reccoment priophylactic systemic antibiotics. They do not reccomend local antibiotics
NICE specify that the use of local antibiotics before wound closure is a reccomended area for research
Finding the best way to lower infection is the number 1 research priority from the JLA PSP
