HISTORY:
Since its origins, the Scouting program has been an educational experience concerned with values. In 1910, the first activities for Scouts were designed to build character, physical fitness, practical skills, and service. These elements were part of the original Cub Scout program and continue to be part of Cub Scouting today.
Pack 749 is one of the oldest Cub Scout Packs in Winston-Salem. Originally Pack 49 was chartered through Ardmore United Methodist Church on December 20, 1939, just nine years after Cub scouting was founded. When all Cub Packs were renumbered in the 1960's, the district added the number 7 for the area when the organization went to three digits and thus we became Pack 749.
The first Cubmaster was Maurice Folb, and eleven boys were in the pack ranks. The Pack reached it's most active period during the 1950's when ninety boys participated. The longest serving Cubmaster was Paul Jones, Jr. who served from 1976 to 1991 and organized the pack in its current multi-age ranks.
