We are focused on cub safety! All of our leaders are trained in their position according to BSA training guidelines, with two deep adult leadership at all events. Youth Protection Training is required of all of our volunteers, and is a joining requirement for adults -- renewable every two years. BSA has a multi-layer adult leader selection process that includes criminal background checks administered by a nationally recognized third party and other screening efforts.
Pack 477 welcomes girls to participate as scouts in our pack and den activities. In 2022 our first Webelos Girl Den achieved their Arrow of Light Rank!
Our pack is dedicated to giving back to the community. We have regularly scheduled pack and den events that help scouts learn to pay it forward.
What we've done: Ducks Unlimited conservation nesting boxes, Dexter Daze, Apple Daze, City Pickup, Hold a Door for Veterans, Dexter Trash Cleanup, Food/Toy Drives, Shoeboxes for Soldiers, Meal Kits for Faith In Action, Used Toy Drive for Faith in Action, raking leaves for community members in need, packaging/distributing Dexter's luminaries, Dexter Lions Christmas tree lot, Arbor Day tree distribution for the City of Dexter, and more!
Our Pack Committee has regular planning meetings. We encourage all interested parents to attend.
We're on Facebook... in two forms! This allows us to share relevant information with our families, and also let the Dexter community have a peek into what it's like to be a part of Cub Scouts. Some of our former Cub Scout families still follow us, because they love scouting! Not sure which one you should follow/join? Keep reading!
We have a closed Facebook Group for current scouts and their families. If you are interested in joining our pack, we'll add you to this group after you join!
We also have a public Facbook page for friends and community who are interested in what we've been up to. If you're interested in joining the pack, follow this page!
You might find articles about our pack in the local newspaper, The Sun Times! Here's a newsworthy one to share highlighting our inaugural Webelos Girl Den, who earned their Arrow of Light rank in March 2022.
In 2021, our scouts learned about geocaching, and Cub Scout Pack 477 sent trackables out into the world for the summer! We released one trackable for each cub scout rank (Lion, Tiger, Wolf, Bear, Webelos, Arrow of Light). At our rank up event in June 2021, scouts submitted ideas for where they thought these trackables might travel.
Curious to see where our trackables are at today? Click the button below to see how far they've travelled and where they're at now. One has even travelled to Australia and back!
Some of our Webelos Scouts receiving their Arrow of Light rank, the highest rank that is earned in Cub Scouts. Many of our Scouts continue on in their Scouting adventures with local BSA troops, with some even earning the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout.
Sometimes it's best to hear it from former Cub Scouts themselves. Here's a letter to the editor that was published in a March 2022 issue of The Sun Times.
