The Mission of the Braidwood Area Healthy Community Coalition (BAHCC) is: “Working with our neighbors to ensure a promising tomorrow by preventing youth substance use and providing opportunities that promote healthy life choices today." We do this by 1) Educating youth on healthy life choices, 2) Teaching parents how to keep their children drug and alcohol free, 3) Providing alternative activities that promote healthy lifestyles, and 4) Building partnerships to effect community change in order to achieve our Vision to: “FOSTER & IGNITE community pride by maintaining an environment where substance use is no longer the norm.”
Since 2008, the BAHCC has been the driving force of youth substance use prevention services in the Braidwood Area and has been instrumental in the reduction of drug use and misuse by our youth. The most telling indicator of our success has been the reduction of alcohol, tobacco and vaping product use among students in our school district. We credit our success to the dedicated volunteers, hard-working staff, key community collaborations, and the implementation of evidence-based prevention strategies.
Although prevention is our main focus, the BAHCC has been able to expand our efforts to include programs and services along the entire spectrum of Substance Use Disorder from prevention to intervention to recovery to address the needs and concerns of all of our citizens.
