Pack 411 has been serving youth for over 60 years! It has always been a family oriented pack where siblings are welcome to most of our events and even coordinates on some joint activities with the older scouts of our related Troops 400/2400 as well!
Our cubs meet about once a month as a Pack (all grades together) where we sing songs, do activities, hand out achievements the cubs have earned or focus on a special event, such as Science Night or Pinewood Derby Races!
Our Dens (each grade separately) meet about twice a month on weekends generally, but it's up to the parents of that den when and how much to meet. The cubs do activities to earn achievements during these meetings and follow the cub scout program for this.
Pack activities are not specified as part of the Cub Scout Program and this is where you will find differences between packs.
We know the Cub Scouts can be many families' introduction to the outdoors, so we try to plan age appropriate hikes in some of our beautiful bay area parks and preserves. And with a lot of knowledgeable parents, you might learn about the fault lines running through the area or about sticky monkey flowers!
We have our very own Pack campout, usually in April. It will be at a nearby campground with running water and flushing toilets. We'll have a campfire evening, where we sing songs, show off our skits and make s'mores (fire permitting these days! Otherwise, it's a Camplantern evening!)
Once a year (usually March) we take our cubs for an overnight somewhere special. Perhaps on the submarine Pampanito (shown above) or an Aircraft Carrier (the Hornet) or at a lighthouse or science academy! A super-fun and unique learning and camping experience!
We invite outside presenters for our December Pack meeting. We've had birds, reptiles, scientists, movie tech, and magicians, just to name a few. Shown above is a cute hedgehog visiting us from Happy Hollow! And as for most of our events, your entire family is welcome!
Pack 411 has been serving youth for over 60 years. We have the equipment and ceremonies that many packs don't have to make cub scouting special and memorable. We are one of the few packs with our own enormous 6 lane aluminum Pinewood Derby Car racetrack, for example. Or the giant flaming arrow you see here for our arrow of light ceremonies.
*Note that all cub scout packs are part of a big family and we do lend our equipment out to help other packs! But having our own equipment makes it easier for us to schedule the days and times that work best for our families.
All our leaders have been trained in Youth Safety and we take it seriously as a pack! Furthermore, cubs deserve leaders trained for their positions in the pack and we work to make sure all our leaders receive position specific training.
We strongly encourage our Cubs to attend the SVMBCouncil's Cub Camp in the Summer. This is a week long day camp (no overnighting) with an emphasis on outdoor activities, nature, science, shooting sports (BB's and archery) and just generally having a good time!
This is another council sponsored activity that we encourage our cubs to attend! This is not only a great introduction to camping for many families, it's stuffed with activities, too! Rock climbing, shooting sports, nature walks, crafts and so many other activities, too!
