The "Trained" leader badge in Cub Scouting indicates that an adult leader has met the training requirements for their specific volunteer position. It signifies a commitment to providing a safe, fun, and quality program for the Scouts.
To earn the "Trained" badge, a Cub Scout leader must complete two main requirements:
Youth Protection Training (YPT): This is a mandatory course for all registered volunteers in Scouting. It is a critical component that teaches leaders how to recognize, prevent, and report abuse. YPT must be kept current and is a prerequisite for all other training.
Position-Specific Training: This training is tailored to the specific role the leader holds in the pack, whether it's Den Leader, Cubmaster, or Committee Member. It provides the essential knowledge and skills needed to effectively perform the duties of that position, including understanding the Cub Scout program, aims, methods, and age-appropriate activities.
In addition to these core requirements, some roles may have further training needs. For example, to lead a pack overnight camping trip, at least one adult leader must also complete the Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) course.
