Den Leader
Andrew Viloudaki
Your Scout is a Member of the AOL Den
The rank of AOL is the sixth and final rank a Cub can earn, and it’s typically achieved in the fifth grade.
The AOL den is made up boys and girls who are in fifth grade with a parent or guardian not necessarily needed to accompany their AOL to den meetings.
A youth that is new to Scouting in 5th grade does not need to earn any previous ranks. AOL can be earned along with the scout's den, even if the scout does not have the Webelos badge yet.
There are no longer age requirements for finishing AOL and once the requirements detailed below are met your Cub Scout can transition to a Troop.
Together the AOL Scouts and Den Leaders will work to complete the required adventures. The goal is to complete these adventures before our Blue and Gold Banquet in February. We will then work on the electives throughout the spring.
Parents must also complete the exercises in the pamphlet “How to Protect Your Children from Child Abuse”.
What you’ll need
AOL Handbook. Each adventure is available online; however, I want the scouts to get used to having their book on hand.
Shirt: The official tan uniform shirt is available with long or short sleeves and has button-flap pockets with the Aloha Council and Pack 304 badges sewn on.
Loops: Official Cub Scouts blue loops are worn on the shoulders of the shirt.
Adventure Colors: The Adventure Colors are worn on the right sleeve to display the Arrow of Light Adventure Pins that have been earned.
Neckerchief: Optional – Arrow of Light Scouts may wear any official Scouting America neckerchief.
"Class B” pack T-shirt. See den leaders for where to buy the shirt from.
Nice to have, but you could get away without the below items if you are new to Scouts
Hat: Optional – Arrow of Light Scouts may wear any official Scouting America hat.
Neckerchief Slide: Official Scouts BSA slide with Scouting America emblem.
Belt: Official green web belt with Scouting America buckle. * Note the Webelos uniform items are no longer AOL approved.
Pants: The official green shorts, long pants, skorts, and roll up pants.
Socks: Official green socks are available in three lengths: ankle, crew, and knee.
We use WhatsApp for all AOL communications to limit the pings on your phone. Please install WhatsApp to be kept up to date with the Pack and Den news.
The Scouting app allows you to track your Scout’s progress toward rank and you can even check off other electives and awards yourself that you might complete as a family. On the Scouting app, you can also add volunteer hours, camping nights, and hikes as well. Please install the Scouting app on your phone.
Once your Scout has earned a new adventure or award, we always try to get those pins and patches handed out as quickly as possible so they see the results of their hard work!
Overview
Our den is working toward their AOL rank. The Den leader(s) will plan meetings so our AOLs complete all six required adventures as well as at least two electives before the Blue and Gold Banquet in February. When we have completed our requirements for the AOL rank, we will transition to a Scouting America Troop of your choosing. The goal is to have the AOL requirements completed before Winter Break in December.
For information on how to join Cub Scouts as well as other helpful information, please see the "New Scout" and other menu options at the top right of the page.
We are looking forward to a great year, AOLs!
