How much does it cost to join Cub Scouts?
Costs can change annually, so please contact the Cubmaster for the latest annual fee.
The annual fee covers dues for January through December of each year and will include pack dues, Scout Life Magazine subscription, insurance, and fees to the national Boy Scouts of America Program. Additional costs may apply to outings and events. If you're interested in joining but concerned about the fees please contact one of our leaders. We want to see your child in scouting!
How does the uniform work?
Cub Scouts should have a uniform. Uniforms may be purchased new at the Asheville Scout Shop (333 W. Haywood St) or used through websites such as eBay. Scouts do not need a full uniform on Day 1 but our goal is that all scouts would have uniforms by the end of October. Ideally, scouts should have a shirt, neckerchief and slide, hat, and a few patches to get started. (New uniform costs approximately $75)
How many years is the Cub Scouts Program?
The standard Cub Scout program begins with Kindergarteners and goes through 5th grade. Ranks are Lions (K), Tigers (1st), Wolves (2nd), Bears (3rd), Webelos (4th), and Arrow of Light (5th).
Can girls join?
Yes! We were one of the first Packs to allow girls into Scouting. We are very excited about this change and already recognize the many benefits of having girls in scouting. We truly are a family Pack!
Do you meet year-round?
We have formal weekly meetings on Tuesdays during the school year. We do not meet during the summer months but about 1 activity each month, like campouts, hikes, or putt-putt.
How do I know if we are meeting if there is inclement weather?
We follow Buncombe County Schools. If BCS cancels in-person school on the day of our weekly meeting we also cancel. Our rule is "No School ... No Scouts". With the new change to virtual school when the weather is inclement, we also follow "No in-person school, no scouts"
What is the best way for parents to be involved?
There are many ways for parents to be involved. Parents of Lions and or Tigers are required to attend each meeting and stay with their scout for the entire meeting. Each den ideally will have two den leaders, which is a rewarding and fun job! We also have several committees, that we ask at least one parent per family to join in order to keep our pack running well.
