Activities

The Cub Scouts program is designed for kids in K-5th grade based on the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Scouts progress through ranks by participating in adventures that are age appropriate and build upon skills learned in previous ranks. Scouts learn in a fun and interactive setting.

Specific information about the program requirements can be found at scouting.org. Below are examples of activities your scout may participate in.

Outdoor Activities

Boating - check, Fishing - check, hiking - check...

Scouts love the outdoors. Even those that say they don't when they join, end up loving the outdoors.

Has your kid ever gone on an ABC hike? We do and the winner identifies the most nature they find from A to Z. Lions do a one foot hike (what can you find in one foot?) Webelos hike up Viewing Rock at Goshen Scout Reservation (Ross is Boss!).

Our scouts can make a fire without those fake logs at the grocery store.

Scouting Program

The cub scout program prepares youth for leadership. You will see your child grow in ways that will amaze you. Want to learn about space? We did scavenger hunt at the Air and Space Museum. Have an adventure focusing on civics? We had our local VA Delegate talk to our scouts. Learning about emergency preparedness? Evergreen Fire Department has helped.

Derby Derby Derby

A lot of people know about the Pinewood Derby. That's really fun! But did you know we do a Raingutter Regatta AND a Soapbox Derby AND and Space Derby?!?

Camping

Ok I know this is an outdoor activity but it's important.

We have lots of opportunities for camping. Scouts that camp stay in scouts.

Family Camping - 2-3 times a year (in the fall and spring) we camp as a pack. The whole family is encouraged to attend. We try to participate in one camp at Camp Snyder (so lucky to have it close to home) with a full BSA program, and one camp at a non-BSA (but approved) site in the area.

Summer Camp - This is a great opportunity for scouts to bond, learn leadership skills, and have fun. Programs range from archery, BB, handicrafts, hiking, boating, swim safety, nature, and scout craft. Did you ever want your kid to clean the table after dinner? They learn that at camp. Like tie dyes? They do that too.
