A Scout is Thrifty!
We have a Uniform Closet with plenty of new and gently-used pieces that have been passed down from previous families. Before heading to the Scout Shop, check it out. On a similar note, when your Scout has grown out of pieces, consider donating them to the Uniform Closet.
Facebook Marketplace, eBay, and other online marketplaces frequently have Scout uniforms and handbooks available. Just make sure to check the year on any handbooks, as the program had an overhaul in 2024.

The Field Uniform (aka Class A) is the classic one that Cub Scouts are most known for. We wear this for pack meetings, recruitment events, flag ceremonies, Blue and Gold, and other times where we need to put our best foot forward. More details on the field uniform are below.

The Activity Uniform (aka Class B) is our pack t-shirt, worn with bottoms and footwear that are appropriate to the activity and weather conditions. We wear this to den meetings, field trips/go-see-ems, and other more informal events. For general Cub Scout events, a generic Cub Scout shirt (above) is usually also acceptable.
Required Pieces
Shirt: The official Lion t-shirt OR the official blue Cub Scout uniform shirt (if you are buying the uniform shirt in kindergarten, buy big)
Belt: official Cub Scout blue belt to put on Adventure Loops (move old loops to a memory box or display each year)
Bottoms: official or unofficial pants, shorts, skirts, or skorts that are neat and appropriate for the activity and weather. (Thrifty tip: check out the school uniform section for a similar "Cub Scout blue")
Appropriate footgear (typically closed-toe shoes) and appropriate socks of your choice
Optional Pieces/Decided by Den
Rank neckerchief with Cub Scout-appropriate slide or "woggle"
Official hat with rank emblem
Required Pieces for Tiger, Wolf, Bear, and Webelos

Bottoms: official or unofficial pants, shorts, skirts, or skorts that are neat and appropriate for the activity and weather. (Thrifty tip: check out the school uniform section for a similar "Cub Scout blue")

Notes for Webelos
If they outgrow the blue shirt during 4th grade, buy a TAN instead of another blue as they will wear tan in 5th grade
The Adventure Colors are worn on the right sleeve to display the Webelos Adventure Pins that have been earned. They will still want to wear their blue belt, but they won't be getting Adventure Loops anymore.
Required Pieces
Shirt: The official TAN uniform shirt is available with long or short sleeves and has button-flap pockets. Buy a little big, they will wear this into the troop level.
Pants: you may get the official GREEN pants, shorts, or skort, or you may wear a similar item. If you are looking to be thrifty, try the uniform section at clothing stores.
Belt: Official GREEN web belt with metal buckle.
Appropriate footgear (typically closed toe shoes) and appropriate socks of your choice
The Adventure Colors (same ones from Webelos) are worn on the right sleeve to display the Arrow of Light Adventure Pins that have been earned.
Official Cub Scouts BLUE epaulets (loops) are worn on the shoulders of the shirt.
Optional Pieces/Decided by Patrol
Neckerchief and neckerchief slide

Big thank you to CubScoutIdeas.com for these fantastic images! Please visit their website or the official Insignia guide for more explanation.
We have a limited amount of "35 year" pack number patches. Please speak to the Uniform chair or your den leader about getting one. You will also get your den number from your den leader. The Arrow of Light den will decide on their patrol name and symbol together.

Start with the FIRST rank you earn in the 12 o'clock (top) position. Then go in the above pattern up until Bear, as the Webelos rank patch will go on a tan shirt.

The Webelos rank patch will go on the LEFT pocket. The Arrow of Light rank patch will go UNDER the left pocket - when the AOL rank is earned, the Webelos rank comes OFF.

Temporary patches can be worn one at a time hanging from the right pocket.

What a great problem! There are many ways to collect and display the extras. Check out this blog post from Cub Scout Ideas for ideas.
Have an award or item that you're not sure where it goes? Ask the Advancements and Recognition Chair, your den leader, or reference the official Insignia Guide.
You may have heard of something called Badge Magic. Experienced Scouters will usually advise against this, especially if you plan to pass down or donate the uniform. So how else do you get it all on there? The Scout Shop will sew on items for a small fee, you can sew them on yourself, or you might consider getting a plastic rank patch holder.
For awards that have a pin back (Service Stars, temporary medals, Webelos and AOL Adventure Pins), locking pin backs can help relieve quite a bit of heartbreak.
Do you have a temporary patch you want to wear, but it doesn't have a button loop? You can sew one on or use one of these.
Tip: once a Scout earns their Webelos rank (4th grade) and switches to a tan shirt, many families will use Velcro or a plastic Scouts BSA rank holder to hold the rank patch on as their ranks within Scouts BSA will replace the Webelos patch.
