Climbing:
If you’re climbing, please make sure to print and fill out the attached release form and agreement prior to Saturday (parents and children). You can hand them to Garo on Monday if your Den is meeting, email a copy to him by Thursday, or bring it in person Friday night in Joshua Tree. If you haven’t paid the $90/person, please venmo @stritapack110 with a note “Climbing" and the names of the climbers.
The climbing schedule is at the bottom of this page (as of 3pm on Jan 31). Group one is climbing 12-2 and group two is climbing 2-4. We tried our best to keep both families and dens together. If there are 1-2 people who prefer to go from Group 2 to Group 1 that would make the numbers more even. If you have questions about rock-climbing, please contact Garo at gjmanjikian@gmail.com or 626-394-9832.
Those who are not climbing have many options from taking a hike on the trail from our campground, exploring other areas of Joshua Tree, or playing games at the campsite. Jr. Ranger booklets will also be provided for anyone interested in getting their Jr. Ranger Badge (Cassie can help with this).
This guide provides details on how to prepare, packing list, etc.
Basic Info:
Joshua Tree Campground (3 hour drive from Pasadena)
Sheep Pass Group Campground G1 & G2 | 74485 National Park Dr, Twentynine Palms, CA 92277
Friday, 2/06 - Sunday 2/08
Climbing Cost: $90 per person (optional)
Camping Cost: $0 Pack is covering Camping fees, FOOD is covered by each attendee
National Park entrance fee: $30 per car (4th graders free; see fees linked). We missed this in the first email; if this added cost creates any difficulty, please let us know.
Check In is Friday, February 06, 12pm (note that sunset is at 5:19pm and it’s difficult to set up camp in the dark). Quiet hours are enforced after 10pm, however please be considerate with noise levels for late arrivals as we have a lot of younger scouts. Map to campground can be found here (scroll down, we're group sites #1 & 2 to the south).
Check out is Sunday, February 8th, 12pm - please clean up your campsite before departing, and leave no trace.
There are vault toilets and no running water, so bring plenty (recommend 1 gallon/ person/ day).
Bring your Scout’s full uniform and Scout t-shirt. Full uniforms are not required for daily activities.
Please remind your scouts to be careful while rock climbing and in the natural areas. In their excitement to spend a weekend camping with friends sometimes they forget proper Scout behavior and conduct. For example Scouts should pick up any trash, keep shared areas such as the bathrooms clean and not damage the natural surroundings.
Meals
Families are responsible for their own meals Friday night, Saturday Lunch, Saturday & Sunday breakfasts, snacks and drinks. (Unless your den has planned otherwise.)
The pack meal is Saturday Night Dinner. Our hope is that the scouts prep and clean up with parental guidance, but without parents doing it for them. The older scouts (Webelos and Arrow of Light) are paired with younger dens for set up and clean up so they can help instruct the younger dens.
This is the SignUpGenius link for Saturday night's Pack meal.
Other Info
Bring plenty of water! There is no cell reception at the campsite. Fires are allowed in fire pits. Bring a camp stove if you have one, but if not, everyone is friendly about sharing.
Take all food you brought (including any leftovers pack dinner items) home with you.
Food and trash should be secured at night because of wild animals.
Please keep your items contained in your space or on you (i.e. sweatshirts, water bottles, etc.). All lost or found items should be posted in Band App.

Safety
Parents need to be supervising their own children throughout the weekend. Of course safety is always our first priority, especially when it comes to climbing rocks nearby. The offical scouting policy on climbing is "Bouldering, or climbing without a rope, must not exceed the shoulder height of the scout."
We hope this is a memorable weekend for everyone! Please feel free to reach out to Cassie, Adán, Garo, Chris or your Den Leader with any questions.
Happy camping!
Yours in Scouting,
- Chris, Garo, Cassie and Adán
