Prof. Dr. de la Barrera was born in Río Cuarto, Córdoba, Argentina, in 1978. He received the B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering in 2003 and the M.Sc. degree in 2006, both from the Universidad Nacional de Río Cuarto (UNRC), Argentina. He earned his Ph.D. degree in Control Systems from the Universidad Nacional del Sur in 2009.
He is currently the Dean of the School of Engineering at UNRC. As a Professor, he is involved in the following courses: Electric Circuit Analysis, Electric Drives, Modelling and Simulation of Electric Machines, and Control Systems. Since 2015, he has been an Adjoint Researcher at the National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET) of Argentina.
Prof. Dr. de la Barrera has been an invited researcher at the Institute for Power Electronics and Control of Drives, Technische Universität Darmstadt, Germany, in 2009, and at the Institute of Electric Power Systems, Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, Germany, during several research stays: August–October 2013, June–July 2014, November–December 2016, January–February 2018, December 2018–February 2019, August 2019, and June 2024.
Within the IEEE, he served as Secretary of the Argentina Section Joint Chapter (IE13/CS23/RA24/IA34/PEL35/VT06) from 2012 to 2016, Vice-Chair in 2017, and Chair in 2018. He has been a Senior Member of IEEE since December 2015. In 2023, he served as Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at UNRC.
His research interests include modelling, control, and fault diagnosis of electric machines, AC motor drives, electric vehicles, and renewable energy generation.
