Hello, I'm Pablo.

I am a public relations and strategic communication scholar and an assistant professor at Universidad de los Andes, Chile. Additionally, I serve as an external faculty affiliate at the Communication Research Center at Boston University's College of Communication

Broadly speaking, my research focuses on the intersection of international, intercultural, and strategic communication. I currently focus on two complementary lines of inquiry. The first one stems from my doctoral work and own professional experiences, focused on nation branding in Latin America. Specifically, I study how some governments in this region have engaged in the practice of "branding" their nations, borrowing from branding and public relations techniques that have been historically implemented by private labels. My second line of research is on strategic and corporate communication. Specifically, I explore the development and growth of strategic communication as a business and industry in Latin America since the 1990s.

I typically employ qualitative research methods, such as in-depth interviews and textual analysis. In addition, I collaborate with quantitative researchers on projects that include surveys and experiments. My work often takes a geographic comparative approach, involving three or more countries to explore how the dynamics of my research topics vary across different contexts.

I earned a Ph.D. in Media and Communication (2022) and an M.A. in Mass Communication (2017) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Originally from Chile, I have a professional background in journalism and public relations, with experience in both the United States and Chile.
