The P. Boyd Smith Hymnology Collection internship is a simple internship at California Baptist University where the intern learns to use a Bookeye 5 scanner to scan old hymnals from the collection, learn about the history of hymns and hymnists, and create a digital project to add to the collection's internship legacy.
Published in 1909 by Novello and Company, "The Anthem Book of the United Free Church of Scotland" is a 480-page hymnal. It was made for the United Free Church of Scotland, which was formed in 1900 when the Free Church united with the United Presbyterian Church to form the United Free Church. The specific copy scanned by Davis Posey is a staff copy identified by the embedded staff identification mark found at the bottom of the front cover. This book was scanned and treated by Davis J. Posey.
This book was printed in 1606 for the Company of Stationers; it was collected into an English meeter by Thomas Sternhold, Iobn Hopkins, and others. The book is the oldest in the collection and an interesting example of Renaissance literature. This book was scanned by Elizabeth Robinson and the image treatment was done by Davis J. Posey.
Published in 1718 by George Routledge and Company, "Psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs" is a 719-page long collection of translated psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs written by Issac Watts. It contains 314 pages of Psalms of David that have been translated into the language of the New Testament, with the last two pages being a doxology. Beyond that are 306 pages of hymns and spiritual songs, categorized by "collected from scripture," "composed of divine subjects," Prepared for the Lord's supper," with a table of first lines, and an index of subjects behind that. Most of this book was scanned and treated by Davis J. Posey, but was not able to be finished this semester.
