1. How do I enroll my child in the Ozaukee County 4-H Dog Project?
You can enroll in 4-H on 4Honline starting in September. You can find more information by clicking on this link or calling the extension office at 262-284-8288.
2. When does the dog project meet?
We do have a couple meetings in Novemeber and a Holiday Party in December. We meet every Monday from January to Mid-May.
You can check all dates here.
2. How can my child participate if we don't own a dog?
You can borrow a dog from someone you know.
You can also participate in the Dog Project without a dog by focusing on the education side of the project and just doing a poster for the dog show.
3. I have two children and one dog. Can they both participate in Dog Project and train our dog?
We do recommend having two separate dogs. If needed you can have two children and one dog however only one can train Obedience and only one can train Showmanship.
4. I have two dogs. Can my child train show both dogs in Dog Project?
Only returning members can show two dogs. Only one dog can be shown in showmanship but both dogs can be shown in obedience. We say only returning members can show two dogs because the first year is all about learning how the project works.
5. How many meetings does my child need to attend?
We ask that the youth try to make at least 50% of the trainings.
6. If my child has other commitments some of the nights of training will be held against my child?
No, we understand that the youth have other things going on. If your child has another 4-H meeting or school meeting, etc.; you will just need to email our email and let us know what is going on and we will mark them as excused. Again we just ask they try and make 50% of the trainings.
7. If my dog is in heat can my dog still come to dog training
If your dog does come into heat your dog should not come to class. However, your child should still come to class.
If your dog comes into heat right before or during the County Dog Show your child can still show in Obedience outside first thing. The dog will then have to leave the grounds immediately after it is done being judged.
8. If my dog is sick should it still come to class.
No, you should not bring your dog to class let them stay home and get better.
9. What happens if class is canceled?
If class is canceled for some reason there will be an email sent out from the dog project email and from the county office. It will be posted on Facebook and Instagram. It will also be on the Google Calendar.
