The Oceania Youth Chess Championship is an international tournament run under the auspices of the Oceania Chess Confederation, the Asian Chess Federation and FIDE (World Chess Federation). The event is for players born on 1st January 2002 or after from Oceania Federation Member Countries (Australia, Fiji, Guam, Nauru, New Zealand, Palau, PNG, Solomon Islands) and Associated Countries (French Polynesia and New Caledonia).
It is a nine round tournament - typically held over five days (two rounds per day over four days with one round on the final day) - with a standard time control (90 minutes plus 30 seconds per move per player) with open and girls divisions, each separated into age categories (Under 8, Under 10, Under 12, Under 14, Under 16, Under 18).
The Auckland Chess Centre (New Zealand) hosted the first Oceania Youth & Junior (under 20) Championship in 2019. The event proved to be immensely popular, attracting 144 players from New Zealand, Australia, Fiji, New Caledonia and Guam (See results and photos).
