Baum Tenpers is a 20-person research group and not-for-profit institution that provides virtual learning opportunities to low-income students through our flagship certificate training program that rigorously prepares students, particularly Africans in Africa and in the US, and other minorities, for graduate school in economics and related fields.
Talented students are identified across the US and Africa and admitted into the certificate program at no cost. Students are then exposed to the full range of graduate-level courses that cover the first year PhD sequence in economics, finance, and other quant heavy fields. After the courses, students are paired with our researchers to do research before going to grad school.
We believe this course-research combo, together with active mentorship, is an optimal way to give disadvantaged, low-income students a shot at getting the exposure and skills required to access and succeed at the most selective graduate programs.
