Hana has worked with science festivals, patient societies and universities to develop hundreds of public engagement resources and events; and as an illustrator, she enjoys injecting creativity into her work. She is passionate about equality, diversity and inclusion and is the co-founder of the BAME network Minorities in STEM.
Sophia Collins: Director, Parenting Science Gang & engagement freelancer
Sophia began her career working in TV and museums and has since spent 16 years working in online engagement. She devised and ran I'm a Scientist, Get me out of Here! for many years and more recently is the founder of Parenting Science Gang. Passionate about democratising research.
Rupert Da Silva: Director, KEEN
Rupert is director of KEEN and chair of the Oxfordshire Additional Needs Partnership and East Oxford Youth Partnership. He is an advocate for greater openness and accountability in the voluntary sector and enjoys running and playing the guitar. www.linkedin.com/in/rupertdasilva.
Annaleise Depper: Engagement and Evaluation Facilitator, Research Services, University of Oxford
Annaleise provides University-wide support for staff and research students in the evaluation of their Public Engagement with Research activities. Annaleise also facilitates the PER Seed Fund – an internal grants scheme providing funds for researchers to develop, deliver and evaluate PER activities.
Philip Fowler: University Research Lecturer, Modernising Medical Microbiology Unit, Nuffield Department of Medicine, University of Oxford
Philip is developing computational methods that can predict whether novel mutations cause resistance to an antibiotic (or not). As part of this he set up BashTheBug, a citizen science project hosted by the Zooniverse, in April 2017. So far over 40,000 people have taken part doing over 3.5 million classifications between them.
Naomi Gibson: Senior Research Impact Facilitator, Social Sciences Division, University of Oxford
Naomi provides research impact and engagement advice and guidance to researchers and departments, helping them to engage effectively with a broad range of stakeholders beyond academia. Naomi also manages the Oxford’s ESRC Impact Acceleration Account (IAA) and the Division’s Knowledge Exchange Fellowships programme.
Robert Holtom: Narrative Coach
Robert is a narrative coach and writer. He runs training in storytelling and communications for a range of organisations including universities, charities and businesses. He is a prize-winning playwright and short story writer.
Sam Langford: Science Communicator
Sam is a seasoned science communicator with the Glasgow Science Centre, author of the children’s book Robin and the Robyn, host of the Monday night Socially Distant Quiz on Zoom, and so much more!
Chris Lintott: Professor of Astrophysics/Citizen Science Lead, Department of Physics, University of Oxford
Chris’s research is currently focused on galaxy formation; runs citizen science projects to investigate galaxy formation, discover planets and more; and is the founder of Zooniverse, the world’s largest and most popular platform for people-powered research and is also the presenter of The Sky at Night on BBC Four.
Michaela Livingstone-Banks: Public Engagement Facilitator, Mathematical, Physical & Life Sciences Division, University of Oxford
Michaela is responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring the Division's Strategic Plan for Public Engagement with Research (PER). This includes oversight and delivery of the PER training programme, Oxford Sparks, festival activities, cross-divisional PER initiatives, and other strategic projects that nurture a positive environment for excellence in PER.
Victoria McGuinness: Head of Research Partnerships, The Oxford Research Centre in the Humanities (TORCH), University of Oxford
Vicky works with colleagues across the Humanities and the University to support research engagement. Victoria's portfolio includes overseeing TORCH with the TORCH Director, and supporting public engagement with research, research communications and international collaboration.
Oliver Moore: Outreach Programmes Manager, Department of Physics, University of Oxford
Oli is responsible for a programme of activities and events designed to engage diverse audiences with Oxford Physics research. He is particularly interested in developing more inclusive ‘mainstream’ engagement opportunities for people with additional needs. In his ‘spare time’, he enjoys gardening and beekeeping.
Lesley Paterson: Head of Public Engagement with Research, Research Services, University of Oxford
Lesley’s role is to support a culture at Oxford in which high-quality Public Engagement with Research can flourish. She has over 18 years of experience and expertise in public engagement strategy development, culture change, evaluation, grant funding, public dialogue, stakeholder engagement, facilitation, project and event management and engagement training provision.
Richard Watermeyer: Professor of Education, University of Bristol
Richard is by training and orientation a sociologist of education with interests in higher education policy, practice and pedagogy. Richard’s work is primarily concerned with changing contextualizations of higher education, particularly as they relate to technologies of governance, and their effect on the work and identities of academics and wider higher education community.
Alison Woollard: Associate Professor of Genetics, Department of Biochemistry; Dean of Hertford College and Academic Champion for Public Engagement with Research, University of Oxford.
Alison’s research is on the developmental genetics of the nematode worm Caenorhabditis elegans. As the University’s champion for Public Engagement with Research, Alison provides academic leadership for the implementation of the University’s Public Engagement with Research strategic plan.
Carla Wright: Public Engagement Coordinator, Modernising Medical Microbiology Unit, Nuffield Department of Medicine, University of Oxford
