Oxfordshire 500 is based on the idea that a group of members (who are anonymous to each other) pay a very small amount of money each month that collectively turns into a small donation to a local person, group or cause in the county.    It provides a very targeted £500 gift each month that could make a lot of difference to a family or community group that is struggling in some way.   The person or people getting the award are nominated and voted on by the members of Oxfordshire 500 who are also monthly contributors.

Since November 2021 Oxfordshire 500 has given monthly gifts of at least £500 (over £42,000 in total).  Please look at past donations on the History page.

We have been able to give two donations in January. The first to a CAB client who is currently in a state of extreme distress and financial freefall. Due to an administrative quirk in the benefits system she is not just 'short on funds' but completely destitute.   She has two children aged 7 and 3 and her income leaves her with a £28 surplus available at the end of the month. Secondly we have given to a family, nominated by Homestart, who are helping a young boy with autism who is non-verbal and has global development delay, severe speech delay and sensory processing disorder.   They live in a small overcrowded one bedroom apartment and mother doesn't work.  They can't afford any sensory toys and other equipment for him to feel more secure and settled.
