I'm a senior in high school trying to find my way in life and straying from the constant need for validation! I've become inspired by so many amazing youtubers, instagrams, etc. who share their language learning experiences, as well as my peers who create such professional work through personal projects like this one! I just really enjoy learning Chinese, and I would very much like to share my love for it :>
That's something I want to clarify- I'm still learning Chinese!!!! I don't know a lot, but I'm learning everyday and doing my best to apply my skills in everyday life. I would like to minor in Chinese and continue my learning beyond school.
My Chinese class helps me a lot, obviously, especially when linking me with learning resources for daily use outside the classroom.
I love reading aloud anything I see in Chinese, mostly just to help process its meaning in my head, and for pronunciation practice! I always get excited when I go to the local Asian market-there's so many Chinese characters at my disposal to read!
But yes, the list to the right is basically taken from Jared's video about how to effectively learn a language, and you'll hear these tips everywhere when learning a language. Being in the native environment as much as you can is the easiest way to absorb. The more you listen to and actively try to understand the language, the more accurate your pronunciation becomes.
I'd like to think that writing these stories themselves is helping me actively practice using grammar structures & vocab correctly!! Reading Chinese stories helps me learn how dialogue is usually set up & what common phrases are used.
🎀 A good tip is to watch shows from the actual country itself rather than reading Chinese subtitles for an English show because the language will not be accurate to how a native speaker talks.
For fun! And as a resource for fellow learners, whether this helps you get more exposed to the language or inspires you to do something similar! I would LOVE to see more people sharing how they learn a language! Maybe we should start a network or something...
I also have the most supportive family ever who encouraged me to actually follow through with this. This whole thing is just me being very self-indulgent. 我想讓我的中文水平提高,所以未來有流利的水平。
