As Governor of Minnesota, Walz:
Reduced taxes on Social Security income
Helped bring $173 million in funding to support nursing care for Minnesotans. “This session, we worked across the aisle to prioritize the needs of middle-class families and seniors. We’re providing direct support to nursing homes across the state to ensure Minnesota’s seniors have the quality care and safe environments they deserve,” he said in a statement.
Put workers first through massive changes to state labor laws, signing legislation that mandated paid sick days, did away with noncompete agreements, increased funding for workplace safety inspectors, and added protections for workers in a number of industries including Amazon warehouses, construction sites, and public schools
Budgeted a 10% increase (an additional $2.2 billion) for funding for K-12 schools
Oversaw the state’s free college tuition program for families earning less than $80,000 per year
Invested more than $100 million in state grants to organizations serving homeless people in Minnesota
Signed a bill guaranteeing Minnesotans a “fundamental right to make autonomous decisions” about reproductive health care on issues such as abortion, contraception and fertility treatments
Set a goal for Minnesota to rely on 100 percent renewable electricity by 2040 and signed legislation to prioritize the creation of renewable energy facilities in communities that previously had fossil-fuel plants
Signed bills that protect democracy - establishing automatic voter registration, allowing people to put themselves on a permanent list for absentee ballots and prohibiting voter suppression
