Design Project: “An Introduction to Genshin Impact”
I love independent projects; they allow me to express myself and put my ideas down. This independent project for my design course was about designing a layout for a new print magazine on any topic. My topic was the video game Genshin Impact. The project was focused on print designs and learning magazine design.
The first task was exploring the chosen topic and researching what exists around that specific genre. Looking at existing magazines, we can distinguish the differences between fonts, images, and layouts. This will help us choose an optimal design for our magazine article to ensure the format is as fitting as possible. The research I have done compared gaming and science magazines to see what kind of mood they had. The gaming magazine focused more on putting up a show and looking flashy, while the science magazine was more about the details and the context. My article had a mix of both: explaining and showcasing the game.
The second part of the project was about exploring the creation of content for our magazines. For the designed article to count as one, it needed one title, three sub-headings, and six images. My article introduced this video game, I called it “An Introduction to Genshin Impact.” The subheadings “Exploration,” “Combat,” and “Events” are nice summaries of how the game works.
Moving on, the four images were directly linked to the title and subheadings, while two others acted as backgrounds. A problem with backgrounds is that they do not look excellent on print, causing errors with the print result and rendering the paper distorted. To combat this issue, I introduced gradients to ease the image out of view, allowing less colour to prevent the page from crumbling.
To this day, the design process and choice for this exceptional process was a distinguished work amongst my many other projects, and it is a qualified piece of design I am proud to showcase.
Design Project: “Career Centre Banner”
This project was done at my high school.
When the career department heard my design skills, they came to me to create a banner to showcase the possibilities the school has to offer beyond its walls.
This design uses a picture of the school as the background image under a white gradient, leaving readability space for the gray text. The school logo, the biggest element in the design, is clearly shown under the information, using white space to distinguish it from the main text.
