Oxford Workshop on Indo-European Accentuation

The Oxford Workshop on Indo-European Accentuation (OWIEA) took place on July 15-16, 2021. The official site of the workshop is Wolfson College, University of Oxford, but all workshop activities were conducted virtually over Zoom and Discord.

The theme of this workshop is a topic that has long occupied a central role in Indo-European studies — namely, word accent and its relationship to ablaut in Proto-Indo-European and in its daughter languages. Its goal was to bring together researchers from around the world and representing a diverse set of theoretical perspectives to produce and discuss papers on this topic. To facilitate this discussion, workshop speakers and respondents as well as attendees were encouraged to consult the Theme page, where some of the major questions and outstanding issues that surround this topic are outlined.

The keynote address was be delivered by Paul Kiparsky (Stanford University). The final program for the workshop can now be found on the Program page.
