Wed, Mar 4 Lower Big Quilcene to Bark Shanty [Easy to Mod] 5.5-6.5 / 200'-600' NW Forest/Golden ride-$7
This hike starts along the Lower Big Quilcene River from the Lower Quilcene trailhead and follows along an old roadbed (sometimes called the "Champagne Trail") amongst both young forest and old-growth cedar trees. We’ll turn around at Bark Shanty, the 1st established campsite right along the river or continue past the slide bypass.
Fri, Mar 6 Little River◆︎ [Moderate] 7-9 / 875'-1745' Discover ride-$5
This is a hike close to Port Angeles off of the Black Diamond Rd. The trail enters Natl. Park at about 1.2 miles. This used to be a historical trail leading to mines. You will pass by rock walls, old growth trees, and cross log bridges across the S. Branch of the Little River about 5-7 times and can end up at a log bridge (with a rope for support).

Start at Dryke Rd TH. Come enjoy this local County Park accessible to walkers, joggers, and equestrians alike! This park has "195 acres with 150 acres in forest management, 15 acres of open space grass fields, 5 acres of wetlands, 5 acres of plant propagation (for the ONP for transplanting native plants in the Elwha Valley), and remaining 20 acres used for agricultural farming and gardening". There is also a section of the trail that meanders along the north property line of Pinnell Road.

Lake Angeles is a very popular & busy, 3.7-mile hike up to a beautiful, 20-acre, alpine lake in a "glacier-sculpted landscape". Parking lot is before the Hurricane Ridge Guard Station and shares parking with the Heather Park T.H. After crossing Ennis Creek at ~ 1 mile, hike continues to climb steadily to the lake. Stop at the lake or proceed up an addtl. ~1.5 miles and ~ 1,000’ to the Lake Angeles Overlook to look down at the lake and be able to see where you have climbed!
Wed, Mar 18 Dungeness Trails from River Road [Easy] 6 / 300'-500' Discover ride-$3
There are a total of about 10-15 miles of multi-use trails and routes in this ~400-acre, multi-use area off of River Rd. & Happy Valley Rd. on DNR & also on some tribal land. The hike will include 6 miles of winding trails in the forest, along irrigation canals and down to the Dungeness River.
Fri, Mar 20 Smokey Bottom - Boulder Creek◆︎ [Easy to Mod] 11-11.4 / 1016'-1154' Nat'l Park/Golden ride-$5
Hikers depart from Madison Falls along the old roadbed and bypass up to Glines Canyon Dam, which is ~ 3.75 miles. The Smokey Bottom Trail departs just west of the dam along the shoreline and in the old Lake Mills lakebed. Spring (late May) is a good time to see some native flowers that were planted during the Elwha Revegetation Project like lupine, Nootka roses, Oregon sunshine, etc.

Go to the Striped Peak @ 1,166’ (not a real peak but a high prominence), on a newly built trail in this County Park and 1500-acre DNR area. Fri, Mar 27 Cascade Rock◆︎ [Mod to Diff] 5-6 / 1736'-2110' Nat'l Park/Golden ride-$5
Hike leaves the Madison Falls area and uses the Bypass Trail to get to the trailhead, which starts just less than a mile from Madison Falls. Ascend high above the Elwha River Valley. Will go through old-growth forest and some madronas. Reach a ledge at ~ 900' & may get views over to Mt. Baldy. Steadily climb and then get to a mossy basalt ledge at ~ 1,825' & the official trail end. Limited views but a good workout!
