Crystal A. Thomas began her career as a Social Worker after graduating with her Masters in Professional Mental Health Counseling from Webster University (Greenville, SC). Since then, she has been advocating for people battling with different healthcare issues.
In 2017, Crystal brought her mom (Ethel) home to live with her after being diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. During this time, Crystal started noticing little changes in Ethel's memory such as forgetting her car keys, not being able to find her purse, and leaving out the milk overnight. Crystal, not being too familiar about Alzheimer's Disease, knew her mother was getting worse, but wasn't fully aware of how to process the situation.
Crystal's mother (Ethel), who once worked as a private caregiver, became the one in need of care and is now a familiar face within the Alzheimer's Community. As a part of her care plan, Crystal enrolled her mom in the Alzheimer's Community Care's Specialized Adult Day Center. Ethel loves playing bingo and volunteering as a helper at the Day Center. For Crystal and her disabled husband, the time her mom spends at the Day Center is a time of rest and reprieve, allowing them to be better caregivers for Ethel.
After dealing with Ethel and her Alzheimer's disease for over 13 years, and dealing with a child who was diagnosed with cancer, Crystal had to learn a lot through trial and error to maneuver certain processes of the healthcare field. Due to this, Crystal developed a passion for helping others navigate the healthcare systems more smoothly whether it be dealing with Cancer, Alzheimer's, and other illnesses. Crystal wanted to share different ways to help others who have family members dealing with Alzheimer's, Cancer, and other illnesses navigate through the healthcare system more efficiently. She wants people to have a better understanding of how to give proper care to their family members dealing with their healthcare battles. Crystal's goal is not only to give back to communities in need but to help others' experiences dealing with the healthcare system be a lot smoother.
