Outreach Education Scotland offers bespoke education packages to young people who have been affected by a breakdown in sustained education. For many parents and care givers recent school closures has created real anxiety around disrupted education of children, Outreach Education Scotland are on hand to provide learning support in all areas and key stages of the curriculum.
Kevin Muirhead (Managing Director) has had almost two decades experience in leading schools specifically designed for young people who have found engaging with education difficult in the past. As well as school leadership experience he is also registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland as an Additional Support Needs Teacher for both Primary and Secondary Education and is also a registered Physical Education Teacher for Secondary.
Recently Kevin has carried out extensive research 'Sustaining Motivation and Engagement in Online Learning During School Closures' which explored the barriers faced by children and parents during online learning with the key findings being; Parents struggle with their own work/life balance when working from home and then adding home learning increases worry and anxiety, Parents often feel overwhelmed with how to support their child with learning and that children struggle to engage in the online concept of education.
Previous research by Kevin has been published in the Education Psychology in Scotland Journal (Vol 20 Autumn 2020) creating a greater understanding of 'Working on What Works' a programme designed to increase positive behaviour and engagement amongst learners who have missed a considerable period of school attendance.
Outreach Education Scotland believes that all children should have the highest quality education and the best possible outcomes post school and will always strive to offer an excellent, engaging experience for both parents/care givers and children.
