This operator keeps the active object centered in the Outliner, ensuring it’s always easy to locate. Additionally, you can find an object in the viewport by double-clicking on its row in the Outliner, not directly on its name but on an empty space within the row instead.
This feature is a great time saver, reducing the effort needed to find objects in both the Outliner and the viewport, especially in complex scenes.
Find the selected object quickly in the Outliner
Find an object in the 3d viewport from the outliner, this is very convenient when there are several objects in the outliner that have similar names, you can cycle through them to have them centered in the viewport.
Click on the Sync active object button in the Outliner header to start syncing.
When activated it starts syncing and automatically centers any object selected in the Outliner.
Frame objects in the 3D View by double-clicking an empty space in the object's row in the Outliner. Warning: If you double click in the name of the object, it will trigger the rename function.
You can access some settings that modify the behavior of the sync, in order to do it you need to hold ALT key when clicking on the button, this will bring a little panel with the settings (the same settings you can find in the preferences window):
OFF : the object’s children are not seen so the active object is centered in the outliner.
ON: the childrens are centered instead. (Default: OFF)
OFF : it will collapse all opened collections and expand the one where the active object is
ON: it will not collapse any collections but it will expand the one where the active object is.
ON: This will keep this toggle enabled even if blender is restarted.
If you feel that there are too many collections opened, activate the "auto expand / collapse" setting by ALT clicking on the toggle.
In rare cases, the sync may not update immediately after a change. To resolve this, simply click on the active object again. This behavior is a result of the highly optimized update process designed to keep the operator lightweight, even in heavy scenes. Improvements to this functionality are planned for future versions of the addon.
