iSLICEE is a program provided by ETSU that enables teaching candidates, like Ms.Avery, to learn how to incorporate digital learning and teaching skills into the classroom as well as computational thinking and STEM techniques. Mrs.RIley has been selected to be a mentor teacher with the iSLICEE program. All mentors spend a week learning best practices and strategies for integrating coding, digital learning, and the components of computational thinking into STEM and language arts curricula. As a team, Mrs.Riley and Ms.Avery will use the tools taught with the training to further computational thinking in the classroom.
The iSLICEE grant will allow teachers and teacher candidates to receive a better understanding of how technology can be a powerful tool in enhancing student's education.
The ultimate goal is to create a more qualified teacher candidate that is not only a consumer of digital technology but is also an advocate for how to use these tools to further computational thinking in the classroom.
