Monkton Arts Used the Ryde Banners project as inspiration for their New Carnival Company's Mardi Gras entry. We dressed up as features of the biosphere reserve which we host in Ryde as well as a few characters from the Monkton Merman story created as part of the Creative Biosphere Project.

The Costumes from the Mardi Gras have been used and added to to be used to take part in Ryde Carnival. Ryde has the oldest carnival in the country. We made a float and won best float and troup and best adult costume with the whitetailed eagle wings borrowed from New Carnival Company.

Why is Teguh dressed up as a sanderling? Teguh visited us here in Ryde for a couple of days. We toured sites of ecological interest together, along with New Carnival Company and Ryde Academy students. Teguh is keen to write an academic paper all about the 'ethnographic fiction' of the Monkton Merman, so watch this space!
