Code of Conduct

The three most important rules:

Play Safe. Play Fair. Have Fun.

Ouroboros Code of Conduct

This game is an organized community activity, and therefore the most important rules to follow are the ones contained in our Code of Conduct. These rules exist to ensure everyone is able to enjoy the game in a safe and healthy environment. The three principals of our Code of Conduct are: Play Safe, Play Fair, Have Fun.

Play Safe

  • Stay In Control! Blatantly losing control of your actions or emotions (whether during combat or because you are unhappy with the outcome of an encounter) leads to dangerous situations and out-of-game offensiveness.
  • No physical contact is allowed in game without the other player’s permission, with the following exceptions:
      • A weapon or packet hitting a person’s body, armor, shield, or weapons (see Combat Safety).
      • Lightly touching a consenting individual for skill or spell use or transferring of objects.
  • No unsafe stunts or climbing. Please do not climb trees or buildings, or jump out of windows.
  • Avoid running at night or in dark buildings. Always use extreme caution when running in the dark.
  • Do not obstruct doors and exits. Blocking or holding a door is not allowed. Do not try to physically force doors open.
  • No knives, flames, recreational drugs, alcohol, or real weapons.
      • Cooking utensils or a small pocket knife safely stowed away are the exceptions to the knives rule.
      • Smoking must be done in the designated area, and staff must approve of any use of the on site fire pits.
  • Remember to eat, hydrate, sleep, and shower.
  • Follow all Ye Olde Commons rules and policies.
  • Support and look out for each other in maintaining a safe environment. Use the Safety Calls to keep each other safe.

Play Fair

  • Uphold the Honor System. That means Do Not Cheat. This should go without saying. The game is nothing if the players are not honorable – no matter how despicable their characters may be!
  • Ask for clarification when you don't understand a game effect or rule. State "Clarify?" to the person delivering the effect and they will fill in the details.
  • Respect everyone's physical and social boundaries and personal property.
  • Don’t harass anyone.

Have Fun

  • Stay In Character. Ouroboros is about role-playing. Staying in character is vital to maintaining the atmosphere we’re all here to enjoy.
  • Do not insult others Out Of Game. In game insults are fine, of course, but we should all respect one another out of game. Unpleasant, out of game personal remarks, slurs on sex, race, religion, or sexual orientation are not acceptable.
  • Vulgar and obscene topics are not appropriate. While Ouroboros is intended for participants age 18+, we ask you to be tasteful. For example, discussion or implication of sexual assault is not acceptable.
  • Avoid obscenities. Swearing is poor role-playing, and upsetting to some people.
  • No spectators. Live Action Roleplaying is NOT a spectator sport.
  • Do not litter. Everything you bring to the camp should either leave with you or be placed in a suitable trash receptacle.

Everyone should observe common sense rules for behavior, personal interaction, courtesy, and respect. Harassing or offensive behavior will not be tolerated. We reserve the right to ban any participant not in compliance with this Code of Conduct.

Though we travel to an archaic world, the laws of the real world are still in effect at Ouroboros. Breaking real world laws will result in action from the local police department and expulsion from the game.

Please report any violation of the Code of Conduct to the staff as soon as possible. If you would like, you may remain completely anonymous.

Safety Calls

Caution: Use this call when you need to prevent someone from getting hurt, but need not stop everyone in the area from doing what they are doing. The word “Caution” puts you, the individual in danger, and any persons directly interacting with that person (attacking them, etc.) in a brief Hold.

HOLD HOLD HOLD: Use this call only in serious or potentially serious emergencies. When someone calls “Hold! Hold! Hold!” everyone in hearing range should repeat the call and drop to one knee. This stops all game activity in the area in order to tend to a medical emergency or to prevent a large-scale safety hazard.
