Here’s a format that might be useful.
Greeting: “Our Father”
Praise: “hallowed be your name”
Petition: “Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven”.
Petition: “Give us this day our daily prayer”.
Petition: “Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us”.
Petition: “Lead us not into temptation and deliver us from evil.”
To get everybody on the same page, how about submit your efforts (yes, more than one is welcomed) to me at sandrateel@gmail.com and I will create a website for sharing them. If you wish, you may be “anonymous”. To give me time to get the website working by the 27th, I need to have your submissions by July 20 deadline.
As we know, the final section of the Lord’s prayer—“For thine is the kingdom . . . Amen”—is an add-on, showing up around 130 AD. So for our summer class, let’s focus on the above: Greeting, praise, petitions. I’ll go first:
Greeting: Holy one
Praise: You are esteemed above all in our lives.
Petition: Help us to be your hands and feet in our world.
Petition: Give us today our daily bread.
Petition: Help us to realize that our behavior sometimes hurts you but you grant grace to us. Moreover, open our eyes and hearts to grant grace to those in our lives with whom we have difficulty.
Petition: Keep us on the right path for your kingdom’s sake.
Pulling mine together:
Holy one, you are esteemed above all in our lives. Help us to be your hands and feet in our world. Give us today our daily bread. Help us to realize that our behavior sometimes hurts you but you grant grace to us. Moreover, open our eyes and hearts to grant grace to those in our lives with whom we have difficulty. Keep us on the right path for your kingdom’s sake. Forever we pray. Amen.
