In 2020, the Equal Opportunity Commission (EOC) and The University of the West Indies (UWI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen research and collaboration between the two institutions. In 2021, the Disability Studies Research Cluster (DSRC) was entrusted with operationalising the MOU on behalf of UWI. Through this partnership, the DSRC analysed complaints lodged with the EOC by persons with disabilities, generating important evidence on their experiences of discrimination and equal opportunity in Trinidad and Tobago.
Publications arising from the memorandum are featured below, followed by an image carousel highlighting key findings from the published research.
Lower-limb amputation is an important health and social issue in Trinidad and Tobago, yet relatively little is known about the experiences of persons with amputations and their relatives following amputation. To address this gap, the DSRC conducted research examining wellbeing and agency among persons with lower-limb amputations and their relatives. Drawing on Sen’s capability approach, the study explored how individuals and families navigate life after amputation and the factors that support or constrain their wellbeing and opportunities.
