If you have attended at least 1 Have-a-Go session (ideally 3-5) and at least one dry fire session, and/or have significant shotgun shooting experience, you may benefit from attending our practice sessions. We allow experienced prospective members to attend one practice session before purchasing membership.
Please note that shooting small moving targets uses a completely different set of techniques than shooting stationary targets. Thus, pistol or rifle shooting experience is not immediately transferable to shotgun shooting, and a Have-a-Go sessions with a professional instructor is required.
Practice sessions include use of club guns, transport, ~50 targets and cartridges, but in contrast to Have-a-Go sessions, no professional instruction is provided. Limited coaching is sometimes given by more experienced club members in attendance, but this cannot be assumed or expected. Sessions last between 2-4 hrs.
As a safety requirement, you must wear a hat to our sessions. Most grounds provide glasses and some provide free ear plugs, but generally we would expect members to purchase their own protective equipment after a few sessions. The club sells high-quality affordable passive ear defenders, check our stash store.
Anyone affiliated with Oxford University may attend these sessions. We’re anticipating high demand and places are limited so book soon via the link on the termcard.
We normally meet at the Iffley Sports Centre Car Park (Map). By car this is accessed by going down Jackdaw Ln, by foot/bike you can use the pedestrian entrance off Iffley Rd, and then walk to the car park behind the main building (Directions ).
Exact meeting timings and location will be sent by email ahead of sessions - please make sure you check the email address associated with your PayPal account. Let us know if you plan on driving to the ground independently, sessions are usually held at E.J. Churchill Shooting Ground (EJ Churchill Directions) but occasionally we shoot at other grounds near us (Barbury Shooting School, Oxford Gun Company, Oxfordshire Shooting School).
Shooting is an outdoor sport. Please wear appropriate footwear for being outside in the wet, and bring a warm, waterproof jacket dependent on conditions - we shoot rain or shine!
Sessions must run on time, do not be late. We will leave latecomers behind.
No refunds are given for no-shows or cancellations with less than 72 hours notice.
