Provided global technical leadership for and facilitated technical and scientific leadership and innovation to FHI 360’s programs in Africa. Unified and branded FHI 360 technical assistance under the AfroTech team. This team provided technical assistance in program implementation, research and capacity building/training for FHI 360 and host country staff. Working under the supervision of the Senior Director, Program Sciences, collaborated closely with other technical staff and scientific and technical units throughout FHI 360 worldwide. Represented FHI 360 and contributed to scientific discourse in countries where FHI 360 was present, as well as regional and global bodies.

Served as Country Director for FHI 360’s activities in Nigeria as well as Chief of Party of the FHI 360’s Global HIV/AIDS Initiative Nigeria (GHAIN) project, the single largest PEPFAR-funded program in the world ($418 million funding ceiling, over 600 staff). Led the team that re-bid the GHAIN follow-on project named Strengthening Integrated Delivery of HIV/AIDS Services (SIDHAS) and oversaw its start-up.
Responsible for the management, programmatic and technical strategic vision and leadership of FHI 360 in Nigeria, a diverse portfolio including funding from PEPFAR, DFID, Global Fund against AIDS, TB and Malaria (GFATM), TBCAP/TBCARE and Shell Petroleum Development Company. Introduced the concept of scientific mentor writing circles to involve junior staff in publishing in peer-reviewed journals which resulted in more than 20 mentored staff presenting over 50 abstracts and oral presentations at major conferences and publishing a dozen articles in journals.
Provided oversight to the teams in charge of fundraising for the organization. Successfully bid and won the following awards (making FHI 360 Nigeria the largest FHI 360 office globally):
PEPFAR/USAID SIDHAS project, a $225 million project aimed at sustaining HIV treatment program and building health system in Nigeria over 5 years (2011 to 2016). Cooperative Agreement No. AID-620-A-11-00002.

USAID TBCARE project, a $3.3 million aiming at strengthening TB detection and MDR TB diagnosis and management in Nigeria (2010-2012).
Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) Niger Delta HIV/AIDS Response Plus (NiDARPlus), a $ 2.2 million for two years (2010 to 2012) aimed at strengthening the HIV/AIDS response and health system in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria.
Subrecipient to Nigeria Global Fund to fight HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria (GFATM) grants, totalling more than $47 million between 2009 and 2012.

Provided technical and strategic leadership and oversight in the design and implementation of program in the seven-year USAID-funded Global HIV/AIDS Initiative Nigeria (GHAIN) project. The project strengthened PHC and local government for an integrated approach, health systems strengthening, quality improvement and knowledge production (evaluation and research). It involved extensive training of health care workers (1,568 trained in public facilities across Nigeria between July and November 2008), monitoring and evaluation, and quality assurance/quality improvement of HIV/AIDS, sexual and reproductive health and tuberculosis services in 114 hospitals, PHC facilities and at community level. Participated in national technical working groups and represented FHI in meetings with government structures and funders.

Launched and led a grant-funded unit, researching and teaching principles of sustainable financing and managed care in family medicine applicable to public health institutions. Conducted clinical service and post-graduate teaching in family medicine. Developed and led an Academic Service Learning model PHC centre, the Daspoort policlinic. Sustained international links in the fields of family medicine (e.g., the DR Congo family medicine training program) and public health (e.g., WHO research capacity strengthening consortium on trypanosomiasis).

Served as a management team member of the Centre for Health Policy. Key responsibilities entailed overall coordination of a collaborative project with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) on the role of the private health sector (financial and non-financial incentives) in providing services of public health interest (e.g., STI) in South Africa. Teaching focused on post-graduate lecture, primarily on the health systems and decentralization module of the Masters in Public Health (MPH) course. Conducted training of more than 250 nurses and general practitioners on STI syndromic management in Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia and Swaziland. Managerial responsibilities of the Centre included human resource and financial management, administration and other strategic issues.

Conducted clinical work in accident and emergency department, outpatient department and hospital in-patient wards as well as undergraduate lectures in family medicine. As seconded staff to HST from 1997, worked closely with district health management teams to facilitate implementation of the district health system and PHC in the Northern Province (now Limpopo Province).
