The current (2014) Watershed Plan was funded by the New York State Department of State and prepared by Onondaga County. This Plan included a survey of residents and included a variety of recommendations for the watershed. But this plan was prepared prior to the start of Harmful Algal Bloom tracking in the Finger Lakes. It also predates some invasive species issues, such as hemlock woolly adelgid, and current climate change science.

This Drinking Water Source Protection Plan (DWSP2) was prepared by the Central New York Regional Planning and Development Board and approved by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation in 2022. This community-driven plan differs from other watershed planning efforts by focusing on pollutant sources. The current planning process will build on this plan's recommendations.
