The drum samples were performed by professional drummer Derico Watson and produced by Grammy-winning producer, Kenny Barto. The library contains 5.26GB of content featuring 60 sound presets, 90 grooves with 10 variations each, with 58 acoustic samples and 80 electronic layering sounds.
As early as during microphoning of the set and recording of individual samples, we took great care to replicate realistic circumstances. Although doing so is almost impossible, we broke with tradition in sample recording, which calls for capturing every sound individually; Instead, our studio drummer played entire grooves. Then, we cut most of the necessary sounds out of the grooves, in various velocities, and processed them to deliver samples as realistic as possible. Having installed Logic Pro X and basic content the drummer plugin was working great. It stopped working properly once I downloaded additional content. All loops, styles and drummers had vanished. The drummer plugin and features were visible but greyed out and unresponsive to mouse commands. Deleting the cache and personal settings made no difference. Rebooting made no difference. Loading a new project made no difference. Any attempt to load up drummer resulted in the same outcome. Uninstalling and reinstalling Logic Pro X without removing the downloaded content (basic or additional) resulted in no change i.e. drummer was not there.
I have been able to fix the issue but going into Library/ApplicationSupport/Logic and removing the 'drummer' folder. I also went into the plugins folder and removed 'drum presets'. I put all removed files onto a new folder on my desktop.
When I tried to open a drummer track Logic detected that the files were missing and prompted me to download the missing 'drummer files' once the download was complete, drummer operated correctly with all drummers available again.
If the issue occurs again I'll take a look at Spotlight file reindexing - would be worth a try and probably quicker. It would make sense that the underlying issue here is one around the drummer sampler code having issues around indexing the sample data.

On my opinion, there is lack of the plugin that would provide BeatBuddy pedal like functionality, I even tried to write it myself several month ago, but stuck a bit due to a steep learning curve of plugin development, and switched to more achievable projects. I would return back to this idea later, but it can take ages with my lv2/c++ skills, so I hope there would be other people to fill the gap.
Problem for me with the MIDI File plugin is that it is not friendly to the short drum loops.
I had a feeling that there is a pause between loops, but after trying it again for some time now I think that it is more interesting than that - it misses first notes of the loop when going into the next cycle. For example, my funk drum loop starts with a bass drum, and in Repeat Mode On it is just not playing this bass drum stroke on every iteration except the very first one.
Recent versions of garageband have a "virtual drummer" that can "follow" a midi song and provide accompaniment in one of several styles (e.g., "rock", "pop", "reggae", ..), and with a 2-dimensional high-level control ("complexity" and maybe "volume"?). It's really simple if you want a scratch backing track.
I don't know what the virtual drummer does, but the new Band-in-a-Box 2019 has a DAW plugin (VST/AAX) that might do what you want. Update 11/2019: there now seems to be a VST/AU/AAX plugin version for the Mac as well, though apparently only 64 bit
Thanks for the comments. I am still on Cubase 9 Artist. I also have EZKeys, that I use occasionally. I use the Toontrack plugins more than most others and I am not really keen to upgrade and lose those plugins.
