A picture is worth a thousand words... but what about a video? What about three?!
The following videos are from my first days of the trip, the first two while on my way to Jumbo with Ben. I rode through the bike roundabout with a few hours of riding experience seamlessly, demonstrating how intuitive the ostensibly confusing infrastructure actually is.
This bike roundabout is located in Voorhof, Delft, and is comprised of a vehicle traffic circle encompassed by a bike-exclusive roundabout. A tram line runs through the center of the intersection.
The public transportation travels through the intersection with the highest priority, with bikes following close behind. Any vehicles that enter the center roundabout must yield to cyclists travelling on their roundabout, allowing bikes to speed by with minimal stops, if any.
My first impression of the bike roundabout from June 21st is captured above.
On June 23rd, I returned to the same intersection with the group.
As you can see in the video, the intersection is accessible to emergency vehicles. Here, the ambulance uses the more direct and unutilized tram line to cut through as quick as possible.
