I just wanted to make you all aware that one of our elementary schools had a complaint filed with Minnesota OSHA this spring for student on adult violence. MNOSHA has cited the district, which is public information. ~ Becky Hespen

The ESPs were joined with the Teamsters Local 120 in solidarity.
ESPs continued to work throughout the entire school year without a signed contract. Thank you ESPs, AESPs, Nurses, and Kidstop Instructors for supporting each other during negotiations.

2023 ESP of the Year
Forever in our Hearts was awarded to Becky Hespen on April 19, 2023
Becky Hespen, special education ESP on full-time release for Education Minnesota - Osseo ESP President, has worked in Osseo Area Schools for 31 years. This school year is Becky’s second time being nominated for ESP of the Year; 1st time was in Spring of 2016. Becky has been so many things to ALL ESPs, mentor, influencer, believer, encourager, fighter, protector, leader, peacemaker, instructor, supporter, innovator, educator, and validator, are just some of the great assets Becky has contributed to our staff and scholars in Osseo Area Schools. After this school year, Becky will be retiring. She will be greatly missed by all staff throughout the district.

Blessing Bags - Assembled 277
Way to Go Osseo ESPS!
ESPs care and support for our students don't stop in the classroom. This was our 5th year packaging Blessing (snack) Bags for our homeless students to provide nourishment over winter break. Our Blessing Bags include cereal, oatmeal, soup, hot chocolate, fruit snacks, granola bars, macaroni and cheese, trail mix, beef sticks, applesauce, fruit cup, pudding, cheese and crackers, juice boxes, and more. We assembled 277 Blessing Bags that will be distributed to school social workers next week at the ESC. (December 2022)
Thank you to all the school district staff and Sam's Club for donating food and money in support of this important community project.

Osseo Area Schools ESPs are ready to vote
Education Minnesota - Osseo ESPs recently promoted a "Get Out The Vote" campaign. Lenora Walz-Laidlaw, an ESP from Willow Lane Early Childhood Special Education, and Lora Hauser, an ESP from Oak View Elementary School, created and coordinated a welcome kit for ESPs as they arrived back to school in September that included pledge cards to register to vote.
