Osoro 2026 Reunion
This is Edward’s house in Ajanguiz:
Eduardo or Edward Osoro was born in the Basque area of Spain (Euskal Herria), in the province of Vizcaya, in the Village of Ajanguiz on October 13, 1885 (3 a.m.). His father was Jose de Osoro, and his mother Rufina de Barayazarra. His Paternal grandparents were Antonio de Osoro and Josefa Antonia de Osa, and his maternal grandparents were Juan Bautista de Barayazarra and Maria Antonia de Barayazazza. His siblings were Lazaro (Dec 17, 1881), Antonio (Sep 6, 1883), Lorenzo (Aug 10, 1888), Maria (Aug 10, 1891), and Dionesa (Apr 16, 1895).
He came to the USA on March 2, 1906, on the S.S. Philadelphia. He was 21, and his final destination was Boise, Idaho.
This is Maria's house in Ispaster:
Maria Santa Zatica was born in the Basque area of Spain (Euskal Herria), in the province of Vizcaya, in the Village of Ispaster, on October 31, 1888 (4 p.m.). Her father was Antonio de Zatica, and her mother was Maria Fermina de Sillionis. Her Paternal grandparents were Victor de Zatica and Maria Ascension de Zabala, and her maternal grandparents were Agustin de Sillonis and Josefa Ignacia de Amias. Her siblings were Maria Josefa (Feb 10, 1890), Miguel (Sep 29, 1891), Ramon (Nov 9, 1893), Maria Juana (Jan 3, 1896 – died Jan 5, 1896), Maria Juana (Jan 6, 1897), Jose (Feb 16, 1899), and Francisco (Feb 5, 1901).
She came to the USA on March 6, 1910, on the S.S. Lorraine. She was 21, and her final destination was Mountain Home, Idaho, to meet her younger brother, Miguel.
She met Edward, and they were married in Mountain Home, Idaho, on January 9, 1911.
They moved to Twin Falls, Idaho, and had Maria (Mary) on July 4, 1912.
They then moved to Pocatello, Idaho, and had their first son, Manuelis Maria, on December 4, 1913. He died later on September 25, 1914.
They then had Emanuel (Spic) on January 29, 1915, and Joseph (Fiddle) on May 19, 1916.
They lived in several houses, and the one below still exists.
They next moved to Ely, Nevada, and had Christina on December 20, 1917.
They then moved to Mackay, Idaho, and had John Daniel (Cocky) on November 27, 1919. They lived in a house that they (seven people) shared with the Aspiasu family (seven people), plus two lodgers (who lived there and ate somewhere else).

They finally moved to Bingham Canyon (Highland Boy), Utah, in the early 1920s and had Edward Manuel (Buru Handi) on February 16, 1928, and James (Jimmy) on October 19, 1929.
Here is their house in Highland Boy: They were next to the Johnson Boarding House (Lady hanging clothes). The Massa and Cochran families eventually occupied that house.

The house had three rooms used as bedrooms, but they had no closets for clothes. There was another room referred to as the clothes closet, which contained everyone’s clothing and general storage. There was a living room with a wood/coal stove. It was used only on special occasions, such as for visitors and when Manuel later took his vacation in the fall to watch the World Series. There was a kitchen with another wood/coal stove that was used for cooking, warming the kitchen area, and heating water for the bathroom. A fire was required all year long because of the multiple uses! A water pipe ran through the firebox in the stove and into a water tank in the bathroom. The bathroom contained a water tank, bathtub, and a toilet, but no sink! The door to the bathroom was only about five feet high and was supposedly built by a short man. Some of the uncles claimed they lost their hair because of bumping their heads on the low frame. The bathroom door was made with two 1” X 12” planks. There was a window in the bathroom that had the glass painted to offer some privacy from passing kids or neighbors.
There was a door off from the kitchen that went down to a dirt cellar. It was used to store bottled items. At the top of the stairs was an icebox, which was used before refrigerators were common. An ice man would deliver blocks of ice periodically. The 1930 census shows eight Osoros living there, plus a lodger, who ate next door at the Johnson’s boarding house!
The mother, Maria died on March 18, 1930. This left a five-month-old (Jimmy) and a two-year-old (Eddie) in the care of an ailing father and the other children. Here are photos of Maria’s funeral:
Another Basque lady in Highland Boy, Maria Idoeta Barrutia had a baby and suckled both children for a while.
Mary later married Louie Susaeta (his mother came from Ispaster and on the same ship as Maria Santa). They subsequently had Joann on April 19, 1933.
Manuel dropped out of high school six weeks before graduation to work in an underground mine and help support the family.
The father, Edward, passed away on January 22, 1937, of Miner’s Consumption, Pulmonary Fibrosis.
Mary and Louie subsequently divorced, and she married George Kosovich on June 12, 1937. Mary and George had two children, Jerald and George N. Kosovich.
